Good questions

The honest answers.

What's a DUPR rating?

DUPR is the rating system most competitive pickleball uses. Coach Sam is a certified rater — he can start your DUPR after watching you play. Your skill bracket is more useful day-to-day (it's what decides who you play with), but the number is yours and follows you.

Do I need to set anything up before I come?

If you want your DUPR rating from the rating event, do these three things first: (1) create a free account at dupr.com, (2) download the My DUPR Coach app from the link in your confirmation email, and (3) in the app, open the “…” menu, scroll to “Connect,” and sign into your DUPR account. That lets Coach Sam enter your rating on the spot. No DUPR yet? You'll still get your L&D skill bracket.

What if I haven't played much?

All skill levels welcome — there's a bracket for everyone. Honest signal beats fake confidence; if you're newer, say so on the form and we'll match you accordingly.

Where exactly is it?

Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, on the outdoor tennis courts — we bring portable nets and convert them to pickleball. Sunday, June 14, 11am–1pm.

Do I need a partner?

No. Most players come solo and we rotate partners every round — it's actually how Coach Sam gets a clean read on your level. Bringing someone is just a discount, not a requirement.

What happens after the rating event?

Weekly drop-in events — come back any week and play at your level. Real games, fair matchups, all invite-only based on what we saw at the rating event.
